Yes, you are correct, trench coats are not warm. In an attempt to not wear one of my many black coats I decided to mix it up with a trench. Bad choice. But I am still torn about which coats to buy! There was a burnt orange one at Zara I loved but how often could I wear such a unique coat? Do I spend money on special coats that stand out or basic black that I can wear over and over again? With Christmas looming I can't bring myself to buy a new coat even though I really really want one. Maybe I'll take a look after Christmas. Or maybe Santa will bring me the Milly Coat that was on the wish list I sent the Anthology (you sent that list to Santa... right Kelsey?). For now I have a goodie coming from Ego Closet to tide me over and hypothermia from wearing a trench coat in December. Oops.
Ah what we do for fashion! I love this look, the trench with the stripes and that gorgeous Coach bag...you look amazing. Excited to see your new coat! xo Cara http://www.afashionloveaffair.com
The outfit looks great--but maybe save it for spring? :)
How many coats and jackets do you have atm? I find I need about 4 to get through the winter months, which sounds like a lot but really isn't, especially since I get bored easily:
-a basic black wool coat (Soia & Kyo) -one or two "special" coats in unusual styles or colours (I have a green sample coat from Togs and a burnt orange cocoon coat from One of a Few) -a light wool blazer (for the early days of fall when you can wear a sweater underneath and a scarf and be plenty warm)
haha yes it is getting a lil too cold to wear a trench coat out, but I hear yah, when you have just black basic coats for winter sometimes you just want to spice things up with a different colour or style... That's why I always wait till after Christmas when it all goes on sale then snatch up a few 'special' coats :) Happy Holidays!! Bella xox http://www.chicinvancity.com/
Especially given how frigid it was today, I can see why you were cold! If you already own a black winter coat, I say get the statement one! Or you could get a camel-coloured wool version of a trench coat.
Well if you are going to suffer from hypothermia...at least you look cute! Love the stripes and those boots. And hopefully there will be sales post Christmas and you can fill your coat void :)
I definitely think it's possible to get a lot of wear out of a bright coat. I usually only have 1 wool coat at a time, and for 3 or 4 years I had this bright red one from Zara in a bold military style-definitely not a basic, classic coat. I wore it EVERY day and loved it. I feel like everyone ends up wearing the exact same thing in winter-don't be afraid to stand out! Orange would be a beautiful colour in a coat.
I don't know what it is about khaki trenches and stripes, but I love it! And those boots are amazing. I'm sorry, you were so cold, but that trench is fabulous on you. <3

I think buying a statement coat is the way to go...that coat will become your go to for sure, and is a much more interesting go-to than plain black!!

This is such a cute classic look! I love it; even when it can't keep one warm.
